Please note that this feature is available only on Inbox.
Account Owner or Admin access level is required to add and manage domains.
Domains or shared inbox
Inbox can receive email in two ways, and your organization can use both at the same time:
Domains: you connect your own domain and create addresses on it directly in Inbox. Choose this if you want branded addresses and don't want to run a mailbox with another provider.
Shared inbox: you connect an address you already use, for example in Gmail, and forward its mail to Inbox. Choose this if you want to keep your current mailbox and provider. See the article "How to add a shared inbox".
Inbox does not connect to mailboxes over IMAP or POP3.
You can add the same domain in Inbox that you already use as a sender domain in Email Marketing or Email API. To set up a sender domain for campaigns or transactional email, see the article "How to verify your domain".
Add your domain
You can add a domain or a subdomain, for example help.yourdomain.com.
The MX record decides where email for a domain is delivered. If your domain already receives email through another provider, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, replacing its MX records with Inbox MX records will route new incoming email to Inbox instead of your current mail provider.
Go to Settings > Organization > Domains and click "Add domain".
Enter your domain in the "Domain name" field, for example yourdomain.com, and click "Next step".
Log in to your domain provider in a separate browser tab.
In the "Configure DNS records" step, copy each record using its "Copy" button.
Add the SPF, DKIM, and MX records in the DNS settings at your domain provider.
Return to the wizard and click "I've added the records".
Verify your domain in the "Verify domain" step.
Create your first email address in the "Create your first email address" step.
DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate. You can try the verification right away, because most providers update within minutes. If it fails, wait a while and try again.
DNS records
The "Configure DNS records" step shows three records. For SPF and MX, the Host/Name is your domain itself, which many DNS editors expect you to enter as "@". If you add a subdomain, the wizard shows host names that include it.
If the domain is already verified as a sender domain in Email Marketing or Email API, it already has the SPF and DKIM records that Inbox uses, so the only record you may need to add is MX.
SPF (TXT)
Host/Name: @
Value: v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.elasticemail.com ~all
There can be only one SPF record per domain. If your domain already has one, add include:_spf.elasticemail.com to the existing record instead of creating a second one.
DKIM (TXT)
Host/Name: api._domainkey.yourdomain.com
Value: the key shown in the wizard.
Always copy the DKIM value from the wizard, because only the key shown there will verify.
MX
Host/Name: @
Value: mx.inbound.elasticemail.com
Priority: 1
Add more email addresses
Go to Settings > Organization > Domains.
Click the three-dot menu next to your domain and select "Add email address".
Enter the address you want to create and save it.
Each address you create becomes a separate channel in Help Desk, listed under External channels. Email sent to that address arrives there as a conversation that you can assign to a teammate or a Team, add notes to, and manage like any other Help Desk conversation.
Manage domains and addresses
To see the DNS records and email addresses of a domain, go to Settings > Organization > Domains, click the three-dot menu next to the domain and select "View". From there you can edit or delete its addresses.
To remove a whole domain, click the three-dot menu next to it and select "Delete domain".
Deleting an email address removes it from Help Desk together with all of its conversations and messages. Deleting a domain does the same for every address on it. Make sure you no longer need these conversations before you delete anything.
