Please note that this feature is exclusively available in the Creator Suite plan, and in the Marketing Pro plan along with its sub-accounts (except Custom Branding users)

Elastic Email now empowers creators and marketers to earn directly from their content by launching Paid Newsletters. Whether you're offering premium content, niche insights, or exclusive updates, this feature allows you to build a subscription-based email business with a dedicated sales flow - fully integrated with Stripe for recurring payments.

What are Paid Newsletters?

Paid Newsletters are subscription-based email campaigns that allow you to:

  • Monetize your content with recurring payments (monthly, quarterly, or yearly)

  • Create branded, dedicated landing pages

  • Manage transactions through Stripe

  • Automatically manage subscriber lists

  • Control post-purchase and cancellation experiences

Payment process and subscription management : Stripe and Customer Portal

To begin using the Paid Newsletters feature, you'll need to set up a Stripe account. This is essential for handling and monitoring all transactions made through your newsletter. Stripe is a reliable and widely trusted payment provider, offering a quick and transparent setup process.

If you don’t yet have a Stripe account - don’t worry!

We’ll guide you through the process of connecting your Stripe account when you publish your first newsletter. The setup is simple and will only take a few moments. This ensures you’re ready to start accepting payments smoothly and securely. If you’ve previously set up a Stripe account for the Checkouts service in Elastic Email, you can continue using that dedicated account!

Subscriber Self-Service: the Customer Portal

The Customer Portal is a secure, Stripe-hosted page where your subscribers can independently manage their subscriptions. From this portal, they can:

  • Review their current subscription details

  • Cancel their subscription if they choose to

This gives your audience full control over their subscription experience - without the need to contact support.

Note! It is the newsletter owner's responsibility to ensure that subscribers have access to the Customer Portal. To make this easier, we’ve provided a dedicated merge field:

{paidnewslettercustomerportal}

Simply include it in your emails, and it will generate a personalized link for each subscriber!

How to create your first Paid Newsletter? A step-by-step setup

On the main Paid Newsletters screen, you can easily browse all your currently published newsletters, view drafts in progress, and start a brand-new project with just a few clicks.

The main screen is also where you manage your Paid Newsletters - publish or unpublish them, make edits, or use them in a campaign.

Important Reminder: pausing vs. deleting a Newsletter

Keep in mind that Turning off the newsletter toggle does not cancel your subscribers’ subscriptions. The landing page will no longer be accessible via the provided link - however, you still can send emails to the associated list. The existing subscriptions will remain active, and contacts who have already made a purchase will continue to be billed as usual.

If you intend to fully cancel the newsletter and remove all associated subscriptions, please make sure to use the "Delete" button instead!

Step 1: Define your Newsletter

In this initial step, you set up the core details of your Paid Newsletter. You will:

  • Choose a product name (visible only to you on dashboard)

  • Set the price and currency. Available currencies include:

    • $ USD - US Dollar

    • $ AUD - Australian Dollar

    • $ CAD - Canadian Dollar

    • € EUR - Euro

    • $ NZD - New Zealand Dollar

    • zł PLN - Polish Zloty

    • £ GBP - Pound Sterling

  • Select the subscription frequency - monthly, quarterly, or yearly

These settings establish the foundation of your Paid Newsletter offering.

Important! To update the price of your paid newsletter, make all changes directly within the Elastic Email panel. Any updates made here will automatically sync with your connected Stripe account. Changes made directly in Stripe will not be reflected in Elastic Email.

2. Design your Landing Page

Use a built-in editor to design your branded landing page with product description (name, price, terms).

Use helpful new merge fields specifically designed for this feature:

  • {Paid Newsletter Name}

  • {Paid Newsletter Recurring Price}

  • {Paid Newsletter Terms URL}

You don’t need to code - just choose one of our stunning templates, customize it, or create your project in our powerful editor

Confirmation page and Terms and Conditions? Don't worry, we've got your back!

In our editor, you can also customize the landing page used to confirm the purchase of your Paid Newsletter.

Note! This page will include the Terms and Conditions of your service, which you can define in your Account Settings -> Profile.

3. Paid Newsletter link

When setting up your Paid Newsletter, you have the option to define a custom URL for your product page. This URL will be hosted under the domain myelasticemail.com, which is the same domain used for all landing pages within your account.

Because the URL namespace is shared across all features (landing pages, newsletters and checkout pages) any suffix you choose must be unique within your account.

This unified naming convention helps maintain a clear and organized structure across your account while preventing URL conflicts.

4. Social share preview

Each landing page includes a dedicated section where you can customize the information displayed when the page is shared on social media.

After a successful payment is processed via Stripe, the post-purchase settings come into play. This is where you define what your new subscriber sees next. An automatic confirmation email is sent to the buyer to acknowledge their order - and you have full control over how that message looks and feels.

You can easily customize the From Name, Sender Email, and Email Subject, and tailor the message content to match your tone and brand. To make things easier, a ready-made default template is provided, which you can use as-is or personalize as needed. For added convenience and personalization, remember to include the dedicated merge field {paidnewslettercustomerportal}. It can also be added here to enhance the user experience

5. Paid Newsletter audience: smart list management

Every paid newsletter has its own dedicated subscriber list. Once a customer completes their purchase, they are automatically added to this list - no manual action required.

This list plays a vital role in your workflow. It ensures that only paying subscribers receive your premium content. You’ll be able to select this list when creating and sending campaigns using the campaign creator.

If you’d like to learn more about campaign sending, feel free to check out our dedicated article on campaigns.

More details about Newsletter's contact lists:

Limited access to newsletter contact lists

  • Newsletter lists are not visible in the Upload Contacts or Add Contacts screens.

  • Recipients can only be added through active subscriptions (e.g. via Stripe).

  • Manual addition or removal of subscribers is not allowed.

Subscription cancellations and expirations

  • Contacts who cancel their subscription and whose subscription has expired will no longer appear on the list.

  • Note: This does not automatically change their contact status (e.g. to "Unsubscribed").
Contact status behavior is explained below.

What triggers removal from the newsletter list and stripe subscription

The following actions will remove a contact from the Newsletter list and cancel their Stripe subscription:

  1. The contact unsubscribes from all mailings

  2. The account owner manually deletes the contact from the account

  3. The contact’s status is manually changed to any of the following:

    • Transactional

    • Inactive

    • Unsubscribed

    • Complaint

Remember: Once your Newsletter is published, you become responsible for consistently providing content to your subscribers, who pay for access to your material on the agreed conditions.

6. Cancellation email

The final step in setting up your Paid Newsletter is configuring the email that will be sent to subscribers when they cancel their subscription. This message helps ensure a clear and professional offboarding experience.

Just like with the post-purchase email, you can fully customize the From Name, Sender Email, and Email Subject to match your branding. The email content is also editable, allowing you to include any relevant information or parting message.

With the Paid Newsletters feature, we believe your content has every chance to thrive and deliver the results you’ve been working toward. If you need help along the way, our Customer Support Team is available 24/7 - always ready to assist you as you take your first confident steps into the world of monetized newsletters.
We’re rooting for your success!
