Please note that this article discusses features included in double opt-in webforms. These are available only in Marketing and Marketing PRO plans.
When creating a webform in Elastic Email, it is required by default to confirm your registering contacts with a double opt-in email. This email is called "activation template". If you intend to keep the option of double opt-in registration enabled, we will always send a default, simple and straightforward activation template for you. However, you can always decide to create one yourself.
The easiest way of creating one would be to use the template editor available in your Elastic Email account:
Our template gallery has a few example activation templates that you can easily customize. If you would rather create one from scratch, there is actually just a single condition for it to work. It has to contain an {url} merge field. You can either pick the "Activation URL" item from the merge fields dropdown or type in {url} directly yourself. You can read more about merge fields here.
You can insert this merge field anywhere in the template you wish. After it's done and the template is saved, you need to insert it into your webform. In order to do so open the form and navigate to Options. Expand the "Use the following activation template" dropdown as shown in the first screenshot and select the name of your custom activation template.
Please note that as long as you use a form with a custom activation template, this template needs to remain on your account and its name cannot be changed. If you need to change the activation template's name, you will need to update your form afterwards. Otherwise you may encounter errors during registration.
Default options
Just as with every other template created with our editor, you can also set up its default options. We usually populate these fields with default data from your account but in some instances this data might be missing. Please make sure all this data is actually filled in or you might encounter problems with this template not being sent out:
