Below is a step-by-step tutorial for a Wix site owner to connect Wix to Elastic Email and automate contact syncing or easily send campaigns to authorized users. Before you start, please make sure you have:
Access to your Wix account to install apps on the site.
Access to an Elastic Email account you can log into.
Install the app in Wix and connect to Elastic Email
When you’re logged in to your Wix dashboard, please choose the site you want to work on and then, once you are in your site dashboard, click the Apps item in the left-hand menu. Then, choose App Market from the drop-down menu:
Now, when you’re in the App Market, please search for Elastic Email using the search bar:
Once you find the Elastic Email app, click it, and you’ll be redirected to the branded site. Now, please click on the Add to Site button to add the integration to your Wix site:
Now you need to review the permissions and terms. Once you read them, click the button to accept to move forward with the process. When the app is added to your site's apps, you’ll also see it in the left-hand menu under Apps. But the screen you probably see now is this one:
It means it’s time to connect your Wix site to Elastic Email. Just click on the Connect Elastic Email button to start the process. Then you’ll be redirected to an authorization page where you approve access by logging in to your account at Elastic Email and clicking on the Authorize button.
Congrats! Now that the apps are connected, the next step is to sync your contacts to fully use this integration's capabilities.
Sync contacts between apps
To start syncing, you need to click on the Sync settings button:
After clicking on it, you’ll see a list of elements that need to be filled. The first is Contact sync options, which let you choose whether you want your contacts synced automatically in the background or Import once if you want to manually sync them between tools. Choose what works better for your business.
The next part is Wix Contacts, and you don’t need to take any action here. It just shows how many contacts were found after you connected the apps.
Mailing List is one of the key parts here, because now you need to define which contact list should be synced with Wix. If you don’t have it already on your Elastic Email account, you can create it now using the New list name input and confirm by clicking on the Create List button.
If you currently use the Elastic Email platform, you probably know what Field Mapping could be about, but if you’re new to email marketing and Elastic Email is your new tool, contact fields allow you to store basic information about your contact, like first name, last name, email address, etc.
In this part, you need to map each Wix contact field to the corresponding field in Elastic Email. In other words, if there is an Email field in Wix, it also needs to be an Email in Elastic Email.
The last section is Contact Sync Settings, where you need to choose which contacts you’d like to sync with Elastic Email. If you want to sync contacts who have agreed to receive your marketing email campaigns, like newsletters or promotions, choose Only marketing subscribers. If you want to sync all contacts, regardless of whether they gave you consent to receive emails, choose the All contacts option. We always recommend sending only to the contacts who agreed to receive your mail. It helps maintain a good sender reputation, improves deliverability, and aligns with our Terms.
When all the sections are filled, click on the Save changes and sync button to start the process:
After a few seconds, you’ll get the confirmation notification in the Wix panel that the contacts were synced, and the app status should look like this:
When you check the list that you choose to sync the contacts from in the Elastic Email panel, you should see the same contacts there:
If you picked the Only marketing subscribers option when choosing Contact Sync Settings, you probably see only the Active status for your contacts at Elastic Email. But if you picked the All contacts option, you can see the Active and Transactional status. Transactional status defines contacts that haven’t consented to receive your marketing messages. That also means you shouldn’t send newsletters or promotions to them. If you see other statuses such as Inactive, Invalid, etc., please feel free to read our guide or watch a video on contact statuses in Elastic Email.
What’s next
Now, when your contacts are synced between apps, you can start various actions on them in the Elastic Email panel.
We mentioned the contact fields above, and now you can use them to segment your contacts and send more effective email campaigns. If you’d like to learn more about what is the difference between contact lists and segments, please check out our guide. You can also read more about how to use rules to create the segment you would like to start messaging in this article. The last resource we recommend around segmentation is our blog, where we discuss the most useful email marketing segments.
Once your contacts are organized, you can send the campaign to your audience. It’s simple, intuitive, and takes a few seconds if you have the template ready. Nowadays, we all like how AI simplifies our work, so if you don’t want to spend time on creating the templates manually, you can use our AI template generator and create one in the blink of an eye - see for yourself! But if you prefer to create the templates from scratch, our editor is right for you. Here is more to watch on creating templates in Elastic Email.
If you already have the templates and just want to send a campaign, here is more on how to do so with Elastic Email.
But if you want the most sophisticated way to manage email campaigns for your Wix audience, you can also automate sending with our Automations feature. Thanks to automated campaigns, you can send welcome emails to all your new leads, send codes, promotions, and more without even signing in to the Elastic Email app. Read more about Elastic Email Automations, and if you want to know more about the use cases of this feature, read our blog.
